WirelessTrips.com Campground Review: Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, Oakham, Massachusetts

Monday, September 19th, 2005 @ 4:28 pm | campground reviews, fall 2005 nostalgia trip, massachusetts

Pine Acres is way off the beaten path. We had to take several twists and turns to get there. Cell phones are out of the question here - zero signal on both our T-mobile phones as well as the pre-paid Tracfone we keep for the kids.

And to compound the situation, the WiFi was down when we arrived. This urked us in particular because when we called to make the reservation, we specifically asked about the WiFi and requested a spot where the signal would be good. But we are willing to them the benefit of the doubt, as it could be the person who spoke to us may not have known the WiFi was down.

With no cell phone and no WiFi, we were pretty much stuck as far as getting online. We noticed a phone jack at our site, but it seemed to be off. And by the time we got back to the office to see if they could turn it on, the office was closed for the night.

Fortunately, we found a good cell phone signal in a grocery store parking lot about 6 miles away in North Brookfield and were able to jump online to check mail.

Overall, the campground, while clean and nice, was nothing special. It is not a place we would likely go back to. However, it did teach us a lesson. Now when calling to make a reservation we confirm not only that the campground has WiFi, but that it is working as well!
