WirelessTrips.com Campground Review: Erie KOA - Mckean, Pennsylvania
Cell Phone Coverage: Yes
WiFi: Yes
Erie KOA was a bit of a disappointment. It was clean and safe, as are most KOA campgrounds, but the WiFi sucked. We were unable to get a useful signal from within the RV. We had to sit outside to get anything workable. Lesson learned - when dealing with KOAs ask for a site as close to the main building as possible. (Generally, KOAs only have a single antenna to cover the whole park).
But the real disappointment was that we paid for a premium site - chiminea, patio, propane grill and furniture - but discovered the campground had different definition of “premium”. We can’t blame them, really, as we had built up in our minds the idea of a fancy outdoor kitchen-type setup you’d find in the more discriminating RV resorts in Southwest. But it wasn’t that at all. It was just an extra bit of concrete with wrought iron patio furniture on it. And we couldn’t even use the chiminea because it was so hot and humid.
Of course, none of that was the campground’s fault. But it was still a disappointment nonetheless.
One upside is that we had dinner at the Safari Grille. An amazingly good place. The food was excellent and the ambiance stunning. Pricey, but well worth the trip.
If you are looking for a convenient one-night stayover, then this might be the ticket. But we wouldn’t consider it a destination.
Two-and-a-half out of five marshmallows.
