We’re Off!

Monday, April 7th, 2008 @ 4:00 pm | from maine to the key's - 2008, massachusetts

After a rather crazy week with the Amazon stuff, which happened on top of all our normal madness, we left the Bangor area yesterday around 1:00 PM for our two-month trek to the Keys.

We’ve packed in a lot of cool stuff for this trip - Colonial Williamsburg, emerald mining, a rocket launch, an African wildlife preserve, camping on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, and the pièce de résistance - Key West. We’ve even thrown in many visits with family and friends for good measure.

When we left Bangor it was overcast, cold, and muddy. We’re now in Massachusetts and it is, ah, well…overcast, cold and muddy. It will probably be another week before we shake the New England-like weather.

We’re staying at Normandy Farms, just south of Boston in Foxboro. Mondays are typically busy for us, so we thought it best to stay put today rather than be on the road.

Tomorrow we head west into New York State, then south to Pennsylvania, and then ultimately to Virginia, where Angie’s sister and husband live. I know some of you may be wondering why we aren’t just taking I-95 all the way down. Well, it goes through New York City, right through Brooklyn and across the George Washington Bridge. The headache of the traffic is bad enough when you are in a car, much less a 32 foot RV with a car in tow. I’d rather drive a couple extra days to avoid it. Plus Western Massachusetts, upstate New York and Pennsylvania make for a much prettier drive.

We bought two new cool toys for this trip - a Nuvi GPS and an iPhone. I’ll do separate posts on each later.

I’m pretty sure there should be a study about the relative drop in productivity when you purchase an iPhone… ;-)
