We’re baaaaack!

Well, in the last episode of WirelessTrips.com (snicker), we had just watched the horror of Hurricane Katrina on CNN and then listened to the impending financial doom of a gas shortage. When we read that gas stations were already closing in Indiana, we decided to head back to Maine. We took a marathon, 27-hour drive, taking turns sleeping and at the wheel, hoping to get home before the closed stations reached all the way east.

Well, we believe the oil companies fooled us pretty good. Some gas stations experienced shortages…for a day or two. But, nothing else happened, other than higher gas prices for awhile.

So, we sat tight for a couple of weeks and now we’re on the road again!

We left Maine just before noon today and are sleeping about an hour west of Boston this evening. It’s been raining and cloudy throughout most of the drive. I think this is a cold front and no longer remnants of Hurricane Ophelia. I made a 5-day menu and corresponding grocery list so we’ll look for a place to do some shopping before we get to the campground.

There was some construction on 495 and the highway abruptly turned without warning. When Richard turned, one of the cabinets flew open and two of our glass plates flew out and shattered (sigh). Everyone told me I’d be sorry I bought glass for the RV. They were right!

We have three days of driving to get us to Wisconsin, where we’ll see Richard’s family and friends. Max is terribly excited about seeing Cousin Ben (they’re almost the same age).

I’m not sure where we’ll be tomorrow night. Richard made the itinerary for the first half of this trip, getting us to Texas just before my reunion. I’m really glad we’re going to be able to attend and we’ll be seeing lots of old friends along the way.

My mom is excited about introducing us to all of my new brothers and sisters (3 new goats, 3 new horses, a duck and a handful of chickens). I LOVE chicken, but I don’t think Mom’s going to let me eat any of hers.

Below are some photos we took driving from Michigan to Maine two weeks ago. Enjoy!
