Rain and Wind and Waves! Oh My!

What a card! That God guy sure has a sense of humor! First, Katrina hits, causing a temporary gas shortage and making us high-tail it back to Maine. Then, only two days after we get up the nerve to hit the road again, we learn Hurricane Rita is heading right for the Texas Coast, which is right where we’re heading, too!

My mom called tonight saying they have plenty of water, but they can’t find a generator anywhere. They’ve all been bought up. Too bad we’re still in New York State. We have a handy dandy generator right here in the RV…not that it would come in handy keeping their well going - but it would keep us air conditioned in that Texas heat.

I’m concerned about my mom’s horses. Not sure how long their stalls can withstand hurricane-force winds. If I were Mom, I’d put the horses and goats and chickens and cows and the lone duck in the living room. Well, maybe all but the cows. Mom’s not allowed to give her cows real names because they’ll be dinner someday. So, they all have steak names, like T-Bone and Prime Rib. One has a really beautiful, tri-colored coat. His name is rug.

Anyway…now, after telling everybody we were coming and then that we weren’t and then that we were again, we now we just might miss my 20-year reunion anyway. Bummer.

But, at least both our homes (the real one and the one on wheels) are standing and not flooded. We never have to worry about hurricanes or flooding at our home in Maine. We only have to worry about those winters when we get around 100+ inches of snow.

We’ll be somewhere in Indiana tomorrow and then to Wisconsin for relatives…and cheese! Yum!
