Party Animal Spawn

On Monday, Richard’s mom and aunt left for their parents’ house and I worked all day while Richard ran some errands and then played Mr. Mom. He also cooked hot dogs and hamburgers. His sister and her children, along with his friend, Chris, came to dinner.

On Tuesday morning, we only had to drive two hours to get to our next destination. I’ll tell you all about it on Friday.

Last night, the people in the camper next to us were playing some moderately loud music. It wasn’t rap so I counted our blessings. They were pretty loud and boisterous and they had a grand time until about 2:00 a.m. I guess that’s when they all passed out. I worked until 2:30 a.m. I’d tried to filter out their noise by turning on our air conditioner. That helped somewhat.

This morning, I talked to Max about how some people don’t obey the rules and how doing so can affect others. Quiet time in the campground is 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Some people (like us!) have babies who need to be put to sleep. Anyway, there weren’t any drunken brawls and, like I said, the music wasn’t too bad, so we weren’t too upset.

After breakfast, I noticed a little boy about Max’s age playing outside. I asked Max if he wanted to ask him to play. Max said yes. The parents were eating breakfast at the picnic table. So, I took Max next door and he introduced himself to the little boy. Then, Max left me standing there and went to the picnic table and sat down with the adults. Puzzled by his boldness, I followed him. As I approached, I noticed the other adults were giving him odd looks, too. One woman said, “Uh, would you like some breakfast?”

I answered for him. “No, he already ate.”

Max then put his hands in front of him, palms up, and said, “Listen, guys, you were very rude last night. You made way too much noise.”

My face flushed scarlet and I didn’t know whether to apologize or laugh and run. Instead, I instinctively played dumb. I said, “Oh, honey, it wasn’t these people. It was the people behind us.” I turned and pointed…and realized there wasn’t anybody parked behind us at all. There was just trees and pine needles. My face turned ever redder.

I flashed a forced grin and said, “Okay, honey, have fun!” I then walked quickly back to our RV. I’m working right by the window and can keep an eye on Max. He’s playing with his tractor in the dirt with the other children. I’ll be right here, closely watching him play with the party animal spawn, and hoping I won’t have any reason to talk to the parents for the rest of the day.

    Thanks for the great tip!

Next time, it WILL be rap.

Max is invited to our party, too!
