Official Launch of the WiFi Finder
You might have noticed the new link up top, as well as the banner in the upper left corner. We’ve launched our own WiFi directory.
What makes our directory different is people can actually see the locations plotted on a map (using cool mapping technology from Google).
Before this, finding campgrounds with WiFi had always been a chore for us. The process was:
1.) figure out approximately where we wanted to go,
2.) plug that zip code/city name into half-a-dozen, or so, different wifi directories,
3.) build a list of prospective campgrounds,
4.) plug each campground, one-by-one, into MapQuest and see which direction we should head in.
But now with this new site, we can just select a point on the map and it will plot all the WiFi locations within a specific radius of that point. We found this greatly shortens our trip planning time.
There is also an alternate version that lets you pick a starting point and ending point. The site then plots all the locations in the database between those two points. It gives you a rough idea of the WiFi locations in your general direction of travel.
We’ve been compiling the data for about a year – ever since we went on our first trip last Summer.
We plan to expand it with only locations that can accommodate an RV. Our rule is: If you can get an RV in the parking lot, we’ll list it. As a result, you won’t ever see a Starbucks in downtown Manhattan listed in our database. RVers can trust that if the location is listed in our directory, you can fit your RV in the lot.
If you know of a location that should be in this directory, use this form to let us know about it.
