DAYS 8-9: Should We Stay or Should We Go?
We spent Monday checking the weather and trying to find a good-weather window in which we could head further south. The boys were not happy about leaving because they adore their baby cousin. We didn’t have to worry about them catching the baby’s cold because…they already had. All three of the little ones have been sniffling and sneezing for a few days now. My sister started feeling a little puny last night as well. As soon as I noticed the baby’s nose running, I started stuffing extra vitamins C and D into all of us. Richard and I feel just fine…so far.
Richard went to the grocery store (again) yesterday morning and I worked (again), and got some laundry done. Autumn made us homemade chicken pot pie for dinner and it was delicious!!! The crust was amazing. She made cupcakes for dessert and the boys help her ice the tops. The boys went to bed on time (for once) because we knew we’d be up early. We were going to try to get below the freeze line before a new front hit the next morning.
This morning (Tuesday), we got up early, and started packing up. The transportation department had finally sanded and salted the main road and we took that as a sign that it was okay for us to get back on the road. I packed our bags upstairs, and made sure we weren’t leaving anything behind (ha ha ha ha). We have a pretty good system. No matter where we are, I pack stuff and leave it by the door and Richard takes it all out to the RV.
I came downstairs later, looking high and low for anything we may have left behind. I found the boys’ trains, our 12-pack of seltzer water (the boys drink it straight instead of soda and they love it!), and a few other small items. I was pretty sure we had everything. We took some pictures of the boys together, shared a few sniffles and hugs, and then we were off!

I got into the tow vehicle to follow Richard…and then I got back out again. I wanted to be sure Richard had packed my favorite sweater but I couldn’t ask him because he’d already started moving in the RV. Knocked on Autumn’s door. She said, yes, he had. Said goodbye again. Followed the RV in the tow vehicle to a local school so we could hook up on a flat surface. Autumn called. “Richard forgot his tea thing.” (I had no idea what she was talking about.)
I got out of the RV and walked to the back, where Richard was still hooking up the tow vehicle. “Autumn says you forgot your tea thing.”
“Oh! My tea thing? Yeah, well, tell her she can keep it.”
(I still had no idea what they were talking about.)
“Autumn, he says you can keep the tea thing. Yeah, okay, love you, too! I’ll call you tonight…”
I had planned to drive today but I wanted to get some work done. Richard said he’d drive so we got on the road and I unpacked my computer. I turned to Richard and said, “I left my power cord there!”
“Oh no. You’re kidding!!!”
“No, not kidding. Let me call Autumn. Maybe she can meet us. I hate to ask her to bring the baby out in this cold…”
“Well, we can’t turn around now…”
I called Autumn and she agreed to meet us. I felt so bad!!
We pulled over near Panera Bread (which Richard loves) and he ran in for bagels while I stayed with the boys. Autumn showed up within minutes, with the baby all bundled up in the back. She sure moves FAST!!! She handed me a bag that contained my power cord and the “tea thing.” At least I know what it is now!
Gave Autumn and the baby more hugs and kisses and we finally, FINALLY are back on the road! It’s not snowing yet. The highway sign we just passed under says we’re heading for Rocky Mount, NC and Miami. Ha ha ha. Miami sure sounds tempting right about now! If all goes as planned, we should be at the beach sometime this evening…but not one in Florida.

Oh, gosh, did I leave that out? Heh…
Richard bought a travel-Tupperware-type thing to keep his special iced tea made from tea bags. He’d made a batch just for that day’s drive, which is why Autumn was concerned that he’d left it behind.
