Day 7: “One More Day! One More Day!”

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 @ 10:33 pm | fall 2005 nostalgia trip, new york, travel essays

Well, the children made so many friends at this campground that they talked us into staying one more day. The nice thing about camping is that, even if you have reservations elsewhere, the nightly rates are so cheap that you can cancel, still have to pay, and just really not care!

So, we stayed at Lake George Escape Camping Resort for one more day and will head to Bath, New York tomorrow. We’ll only be staying there for one night now, so we’re hoping to be able to squeeze in the tour of the Keuka Lake Winery Route on Friday morning before heading west to Indian Creek Camping Resort in Geneva on the Lake, Ohio. Pretty city name, isn’t it?

The nicest things about staying one more day were that I got a lot of work done (business really picked up this week for some reason and I was getting behind) and I was able to do another load of laundry (we won’t have a sewer connection for the next couple of nights).

We went to dinner in Lake George again this evening. We were lucky and found a parking spot right on the main road…right next to a man with a baby stroller. The restaurant was right on the lake. The view was wonderful. The food was really, really bad. Lots of reheated frozen foods. I hate restaurants like that. We then chose the biggest ice cream shop on the main street. It advertised ice cream and candy on the windows and signs, but it sold very little candy and only about 10 flavors of ice cream. That was a disappointment, too. If you come here, choose one of the smaller ice cream shops down the sidewalk from the really big one. We returned to the car two hours later and the man with the baby stroller was still standing there. I was curious and took a look in the baby stroller. There were some blankets in there, but no baby. Weird, huh? He then covered up the stroller with a baby blanket so nobody else could peek in. Hey, I’m a woman and I can peek in any baby stroller I want to!

Below are pictures of Ali digging for change at the parking meter, Ali at the restaurant with Lake George in the background, and Max at the ice cream parlor.

Ali and Frank’s friends are from New Jersey and Connecticut. They met yesterday during the water balloon fight. Today, they all rode the train, swam in the heated pool, played flag football and more. They’ve already exchanged physical and email addresses so they can stay in touch. Ali and Frank have collected a nice list of friends from across the country on our trips. :)
