Day 6: The Children Are Exhausted!

I’m sitting all alone in the RV, working in the “master bedroom” (which is small, but at least it has a door!). I’m surrounded by clean clothes because this campground has a “no visible clothes lines” rule.

Frank is panning for gold again. Ali is talking to some new friends she made today. I just had to jump up and videotape Richard and Max riding by on the train. There is so much for the children to do here that we’re raising our rating from four to five marshmallows. When we first started RVing, this was one of the first campgrounds we came to and we didn’t realize at that time that there are very few campgrounds that have this many activities for the family. This place kind of reminds me of the family camp in the movie Dirty Dancing. There’s a loudspeaker they use to invite “campers” to participate in each hourly activity and the place is packed with children and adults. All day long you hear laughter coming from everywhere. The children fall exhausted into bed each night and I know we’re going to hear some pretty loud complaints when we pack up to leave tomorrow!

In just the past seven hours, the children made marshmallow people, panned for gold, swam in the heated pool, played at the playground, participated in a blindfolded water balloon fight, rode the train, rented really cool bikes, and hunted for frogs. (Don’t worry. We’re not having frog legs for supper. It was catch and release.) Later this evening, Ali and Frank are going fishing.

Lake George Escape Camping Resort is worth going out of your way for and you should plan to spend at least three nights (longer if you have children) if you want to get a real taste of this camping “resort.” We drove through Lake George (the town, not the water) last night and it was pretty crowded and quite the tourist spot! From clothing stores to restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating to souvenir shops, you could spend hours exploring this neat vacation destination.

We’re heading to Bath, New York tomorrow where we’ll be touring the Keuka Lake Winery Route. See ya there!

what are the possibilities of some closer pictures of the cockpit there in the RV? i would love to see how y’all have the powerbook set up and the GPS and all. i am getting more and more serious about hitting the road in an RV when britt finishes here. anyway, would love to see some interior pics of a “lived in” RV.
