DAY 4: Air and Space Museum!

Friday, January 29th, 2010 @ 10:23 am | "No More Snow!" Trip - Winter, virginia

We got up early yesterday morning, bundled up the boys, and headed to the Air and Space Museum with my sister and her baby. We drove to the Metro and took the subway into town, much to the sheer and utter delight and glee of Max and Mason. Trains are their favorite things!

Max was a bit intimidated by the crowded areas but Mason was not. Max usually stays right near my hip (always has) but Mason will leave our side and walk away…and keep walking. He has no fear. I honestly wish he was more like Max. That boy scares me to death! We let the boys eat McDonalds for lunch. They only get to eat there once or twice a year…for obvious reasons.

Richard had a scavenger hunt lesson printed out for Max’s homeschooling lesson. They went to do that while my sister and I chased Mason and her baby around the place, letting them try the hands-on activities. We knew they’d sleep well last night…and we knew Autumn and I would sleep well, too!

Mason Working at Mission Control

We left there and tried to figure out where to go for dinner. We stopped for a coffee and, when my sister went to the restroom, I snuck my nephew a chocolate granola bar that was in my pocket. (Don’t worry, it was still in the wrapper.) I knew he’d get it EVERYWHERE. Heh… My sister came back and gave me the laser eye, saying she was going to give MY kids caffeine right before bedtime.

We decided to take the Metro to a stop near a California Pizza Kitchen. One of my brother-in-law’s fellow marines met us there for dinner and we had a great time! Mason ate almost an entire child’s pizza and his eyes started to glaze over. I asked him if he wanted to sit on my lap. He did, and promptly fell sound asleep. I noticed later that he was drooling on me, and left a huge wet spot right in the middle of my chest. He woke up just after dessert and we packed him in his stroller for the walk back to the Metro and the ride home. It was a wonderful day despite the fact that it was REALLY cold.

Bundled Cousins

This morning, the baby has a runny nose and my throat is a bit sore but we’re still going to go out and have fun today because tomorrow is when the big storm is supposed to hit. We’ll be stuck inside all weekend but it’ll be cozy and warm and my sister has TONS of toys so the boys are very happy to be home-bound for a couple of days.
