Campground Review: Yogi Bears Jellystone Park - Grand Haven, Michigan
Wi-Fi Yes
Cell phone coverage - Yes
Grand Haven, Michigan is a beautiful city! The waterfront is gorgeous, the weather was fantastic, and the people were really, really friendly. The children enjoyed this campground, mainly because there were go-carts ($4.50 for 5 minutes), a nice playground (lots of sand), a good game room (they played lots of games and got lots of trinkets with their tickets) and a really nice mini-golf course complete with a waterfall and fish. The store is nicely decorated and inviting. Laundry is $1 for a wash and $1.25 for a dry ($2.25 per load), but it closes at 10:00 p.m. Since I like to do my laundry late at night, I was out of luck and had to take two bags of dirty clothes to the next campground. Bummer.
Grand Haven has citywide wi-fi access. Richard got a signal at almost every place he stopped. The manager at this park got it working right at this location and had spent several weeks trouble-shooting it before making it available to campers. We were able to get online right away. While the city connection had some burps while we were online, the connection was much better than weve experienced at other places.
The actual campground area waswell, it was pretty crowded. But, after all, it was the 4th of July weekend. The woman who let us through the gate said, Oh, you have a good shady spot! Well, I can tell you that theres not one tree on our spot! The first thing we thought when we drove up wasshade? What shade?! There was a line of trees separating our row from another row, but theyre certainly nowhere near our spot and dont provide any shade. In fact, we had to put sunscreen on all the kids first thing eacg morning, knowing it would be a scorcher (and knowing there was no way wed be able to keep them under the RV canopy all day).
We had to put a deposit down on an electrical cord extension because they have us sharing a box with our neighbor here and our cord didnt even come close to reaching it. The mosquitoes are pretty intense in the summertime here, so be sure to have a can of insect repellent with you if you come visit. The only bad thing we experienced here was the shower house. For some reason, you have to hold the button down the entire time you shower. Were not sure if its just a malfunction of perhaps the way they shower is made (to preserve water). Ever tried to wash your hair with one hand? Its not easy!
We give this campground 3 out of 5 marshmallows.

If you ever go back to Grand Haven, check out the musical water fountain. Not sure if it operates ever night, or just on Fridays.
